Hatchbacks segment war is never ending and Indians affinity for these small cars is eternal. A comfortable spacious car with all comforts and an economic price tag is something that everyone wants in its garage. Hatchback segment is presently the fastest growing segment in Indian automotive market. Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai have led this segment from a long time. With hefty sales figures these two companies have secured top two positions in automobile world unchallenged. Recently Maruti Stingray joined the club, the car is a face lifted version of Wagon R which one among the top five selling cars of India. With this face lift Maruti hopes to make recovery in its declining sales. Hyundai on the contrary, has been maintaining its position with small cars like i10, i20, and Eon. Stingray gives a tough fight to most of these including Eon which is a perfect competitor of this car. Both cars have trendy looks, stylish designs, and appreciable potential.
Hyundai Eon is available in market in petrol as well as CNG version while Stingray can be availed onlyin petrol version. Eon is powered by a 0.8-litre, 3-cylnder, petrol engine that promises an output worth 57PS against maximum torque of 75Nm. Maruti Stingray on the other hand delivers power worth 70PS against a peak torque of 90Nm. Powered by this power mill, Stingray crosses the 100kmph speed mark in just 16 seconds and can easily attain a top speed of 120kmph. Hyundai Eon on the other hand takes 21 seconds to glide between 0-100kmph speed mark and smoothly attains a top speed of 135kmph.
Maruti Stingray’s power mill is no doubt more efficient than Eon, but Eon being smaller in size offers better fuel efficiency. Its 1-litre petrol mill offers fuel efficiency of 20kmpl on highways and the same figure may go down a bit in city traffic. Hyundai Eon on the other hand delivers a mileage of 21kmpl.
Hyundai Eon bears one of the most compact and neat designs when it comes to exteriors. Each feature from grille, headlights, bumper, crease lines on car sides, and rear profile, all have been sculpted in a unique way.
Stingray on the other hand bears a more aggressive and bold looks. The box like structure of the car ensures more space and better comfort to its passengers. It looks like a trendy replica of traditional Wagon R. The car looks good but Eon looks better in comparison to it.
Maruti Stingray’s build quality and cabin space makes it a superior choice as compared to Hyundai Eon. Stingray interiors remind of Wagon R while Eon interiors look refreshing. Stingray’s dashboard looks average as compared to Eon. Though the number of features is same but arrangement in Eon looks more systematic.
Maruti Stingray being larger in size offers more space and comfort to its passengers, while Eon seems crowded if you include more than four adults in one go. Moving over to comfort features, Maruti Stingray offers all comfort features including cup holders, electronically adjustable wing mirrors, USB, AUX-in, FM/AM player, 12V power socket, power windows, power steering with mounted audio controls, and a powerful AC. Hyundai Eon on the other hand offers similar comfort features like power windows, steering, 2-DIN audio MP3, USB support, heater, central locking, and so forth.
Both car makers have taken good care to provide their consumers with best safety. Stingray comes with safety features like ABS, collapsible steering, seat belts for all passengers, fog lamps, side impact beams, central locking system, child safety locks, day/night rear view mirror, centrally positioned fuel tank, and several others.

Hyundai Eon is being offered in market in six standard shades: Ember Grey, Pristine Blue, Sleek Silver, Maharajah Red, and Mushroom color. Maruti Stingray on the contrary is being offered in five colors Silky Silver, Superior White, Passion Red, Midnight Blue, and Glistening Grey.
It is easier to afford a Hyundai Eon as compared to Maruti Stingray. The price range of Hyunai Eon extends from Rs.2.92 – Rs.3.94 lakhs while that of Maruti Stingray varies between Rs.4.19 – Rs.4.76 lakhs.
Hyundai Eon and Maruti Stingray both belong to two different segments but have identity of their own. But the two cars are comparable as Indian consumers compare cars on basis of mileage, power, and performance. On such basis the two cars are comparable. Hyundai Eon comprises a better power mill and mileage figure while Maruti Stingray takes over in terms of other features. Final decision though relies on the preference and budget of buyers.
