BMW is one of the best car manufacturers in the world and better known for its luxury and performance saloons. They launched the BMW X1 to generate good sales numbers in the entry level premium sports utility vehicle segment and offers excellent features. In our car comparison today we will compare it with the Ford Endeavour SUV which is a feature packed vehicle and see which one of the two cars come out on top.
Looks and design:
BMW X1 is a fantastic sports activity vehicle as BMW likes to call it and has a very aggressive looking front end and looks absolutely stunning. It has the trademark BMW chrome-lined twin kidney grills and the skid plate combined with the black bumper gives it a very contemporary feel to its design. The build quality is excellent and paint quality feels top notch.
Ford Endeavour has large headlamps and front grill dipped in chrome and features the FORD logo in the center of the grill. The fog lamps are housed in trendy housing and the rear end has well designed tail lamps and the spare tyre on the tail gate looks great. Ford has maintained their excellent build quality with the Ford Endeavour and the fit finish is top notch.

Interiors – design, space and features:
BMW X1 comes with Harman/Kardon speakers, USB/Aux-in, Bluetooth. The highline variant features the i-Drive. X1 comes with a 4” screen which displays the vehicle functions. It has ambient lighting, adjustable armrests, vanity mirrors and satin silver interior trim. There is plenty of space for the rear passengers. There is plenty of storage area inside for your small items and the boot space is 430 liters.
Ford Endeavour has plenty of features and brings comfortable seats which provide very good support to the back. It has 6 CD changer stereo system with Aux-in, USB/iPod connectivity and large air conditioning vents. The Endeavour has a boot space of 430 liters, sufficient to carry your travel luggage. The cabin area is vast and spacious and gives an airy feeling to the passengers inside.

Engine – performance, power, torque, fuel economy, smoothness:
BMW X1 brings the powerful 2.0 liter diesel engine that produces 177 BHP at 4000 RPM and delivers a maximum torque of 350 NM between 1750-3000 RPM. ARAI has certified the BMW X1 to deliver an excellent fuel efficiency of 15.06 kmpl. It is currently only available with the diesel engine and has very good power deliver and highway performance. The NVH levels are well controlled on the BMW X1.
Ford Endeavour has a 2.5 liter Duratorq diesel engine and 3.0 liter Duratorq diesel engine. The 2.5 liter engine variant produces 140 BHP and 330NM of torque at 1800 RPM. The 3.0 liter variant on the Endeavour produces 152 BHP at 3200 RPM and 380 NM of torque at 2500 RPM. ARAI has rated the 2.5 liter engine variant to deliver a maximum fuel efficiency of 13.1 kmpl and the 3.0 liter to deliver a maximum fuel efficiency of 11.4kmpl.

Suspension – Ride, comfort and handling:
BMW has done a wonderful job setting up the suspension on the BMW X1 sports activity vehicle. It has a well sorted out suspension unit that ensures a comfortable ride quality on road. It is not however built for off road use but it has ample ground clearance to negotiate the worst of Indian roads. It has Dynamic Stability Control –ESP and Dynamic Traction Control for better control at all times and disc brakes with ABS + EBD.
Ford Endeavour is a good handling car but it brings a leaf spring suspension setup that provides comfortable ride to its passengers. It holds its own off the road and it is a capable off-roader. On road it is does not have the best ride quality in comparison with its rivals. The steering unit provides very good feedback at low and high speed. It has very good brakes and brings ABS + EBD as part of the package.

Value for money – sticker price, standard features:
BMW X1 has been priced from Delhi ex-showroom price for BMW X1 sDrive 18i at 22.40 lakhs for the petrol variant. While the diesel variants are priced at 24.40 lakhs for the base variant BMW X1 sDrive20D. While the top variant of the BMW X1 sDrive20D Exclusive has been priced at 30.80 lakhs. The pricing is quite sensible for a BMW car.
Ford Endeavour is available at an ex-showroom Delhi price of 18.06 lakhs for the Ford Endeavour 4×2 MT base variant. Ford Endeavour 3.0L AT 4×2 has been priced at 19.14 lakhs. Ford Endeavour Hurricane Limited Edition is priced at 20.13 lakhs while the Ford Endeavour 4×4 Thunder Plus has been priced at 20.75 lakhs ex-showroom Delhi. The pricing is good value for money.

Ford Endeavour is one of the tried and tested SUVs on road today and offers good value for money. It is a capable off-roader as well, which its rival is not. It is indeed a tough choice between these two sports utility vehicles.
