Tata Manza versus Mahindra Verito

Tata makes some of the most cost effective and affordable cars in the market today and is one of the largest passenger car makers in the country. Mahindra Verito is the latest sedan from the stable of Mahindra and brings good features in the latest facelifted iteration. We compare one of its sedan Tata Manza with the latest iteration of the Mahindra Verito and find out which of these two is the better car in the C segment.

Looks and design:


Tata Manza has been well designed and brings good looks to the segment. It has been well designed with a sporty front end design and comes with clear lens headlamps and chrome tipped front grille and chrome door handles. It has a clean and uncluttered design. The rear is designed in proportion with the front end. The build quality, fit and finish is quite good on the Tata Manza.


Mahindra have done a good job with the design on the Verito sedan and given it good looks and features. It has been well built by the company and the fit, finish and paint quality is certainly amongst some of the better cars in the segment. It has styling cues and the overall design element looks a bit understated. It has sporty profile to the front and the rear is also well designed. The new facelifted Verito looks better than before.

Interiors – design, space and features:


Tata has done well with the interiors of the Tata Manza sedan and have given it good interior features is of good quality. It has effective air conditioner, tilt adjustable steering unit, power windows, internally adjustable RVMs, MP3 music system. It has cubby holes, glove box and a cavernous boot space of 460 liters to carry your entire travel luggage when you are on the move.


Mahindra has good features in the Verito sedan with comfortable seats and a spacious cabin it brings a comfortable experience driving in the car for all its passengers. It has good support for the back and thighs and there is ample leg and head room inside. It has effective air con, rear defogger, power windows, 2 DIN music system, height adjustable driver seat and driver side air bag for safety. It has cubby holes, glove box and total boot space of around 510 liters.

Engine – performance, power, torque, fuel economy, smoothness:


Tata Manza brings two engine variants both with 5 speed gearbox. The petrol engine variant is a 1.4 liter engine which makes 89 BHP at 6000 RPM and 116 of maximum torque at 4750 RPM. ARAI has rated it to deliver 14.5 kmpl of fuel efficiency. The diesel engine variant is a 1.3 liter engine which makes 89 BHP at 4000 RPM and 200 NM of torque at 1750 RPM. ARAI has rated this unit to deliver 21 kmpl of fuel efficiency.


Mahindra Verito sedan has good drivability from both its engines and has a powerful petrol engine with a 1.4 liter petrol engine which produces 75 BHP of power at 5500 RPM and maximum torque of 110 NM at 3000 RPM. ARAI has rated it to deliver 13.87 kmpl of fuel efficiency. The diesel engine is equally power with good drivability and makes 65 BHP of power at 4000 RPM and 160 NM of torque at 2000 RPM. ARAI has rated it to deliver 20.77 kmpl of fuel efficiency.

Suspension – Ride, comfort and handling:


Tata wanted to provide a good ride quality with their Manza sedan and therefore the suspension setup on the Manza is very well sorted and offers good ride ability. It has good ride quality as the suspension absorbs all the bumps and undulations on the road and gives a comfortable ride. It has a hydraulic steering unit which gives good feedback while driving and is easy to turn in. Inclusion of ABS is a welcome move by Tata.


Mahindra wanted to give its customers a good car to drive which is also quite comfortable. It has a good ride quality and absorbs all the bumps and undulations on the ride quite well. There is negligible amount of body roll and the ride is stable. It has a light weighted steering unit which ensures a comfortable driving experience and the ABS helps in slowing down quickly without locking up the brakes in an emergency.

Tata Manza has a starting ex-showroom Delhi price of 5.70 lakhs for Tata Manza Club Class Petrol, Tata Manza Aura Saffire is priced at 6.06 lakhs, Tata Manza Elan Saffire is priced at 7.17 lakhs and top variant petrol is priced at 8.80 lakhs for Tata Manza Club Class Saffier 90 EXL. The diesel engine variants price starts from 6.49 lakhs for Tata Manza Club Class Quadrajet 90 LS, Tata Manza Club Class Quadrajet 90 VX is priced at 6.93 lakhs, Tata Manza Club Class Quadrajet 90 EX 8.39 lakhs and top variant diesel is priced at 8.77 lakhs for Tata Manza Club Class Quadrajet 90 EXL.

Mahindra Verito starts from price tag of 5.28 lakhs for the Mahindra Verito G2 and top variant in petrol Mahidnra Verito G4 has been priced at 5.50 lakhs. Mahindra Verito Diesel has been priced from 6.26 lakhs for the Mahindra Verito D2, Mahindra Verito D4 has been priced from 6.48 lakhs while the top variant in diesel has been priced at 7.15 lakhs for the Mahindra Verito D6. The pricing is quite good for the Verito sedan.

Tata Manza is a good sedan in the C segment and has very good level of comfort. It has a good features and performance and it is good value for money. Mahindra Verito also brings good features and performance and gives a tough competition to the competitors in many ways. Both the companies in this comparison have good after sales backup and cost effective ownership.
