Mahindra Bolero brings many features at very good pricing and has been workhorse from Mahindra in the MUV segment with rugged features and good performance. Tavera has been a popular car in the segment and has been a sales success for Chevrolet owing to excellent performance and features. Let’s see how these two cars fare against each other in our car comparison today.

Looks and design:


Mahindra Bolero gets better looking exteriors after a slight refresh recently. It has better looking headlamps which resemble hawk-eye. It has more muscular styling and big bumpers with integrated fog lamps and flared wheel arches with sporty alloy wheels which add to the looks of the Bolero. It has been well built by Mahindra and the fit, finish and paint quality is quite good on this multi utility vehicle.


Chevrolet Tavera has good modern styling and improved exterior looks. It has large headlamps which look sporty and the rear has been well designed too. It has fog lamps at the front housed in stylish body colored bumpers. It has 10 spoke 15 inch alloy wheels and big tyres which add muscle to the multi utility vehicle. It has been well constructed and retains excellent build quality, fit and finish.

Interiors – design, space and features:


Mahindra Bolero brings good quality interiors draped in beige color and functional dashboard with center console which has many features. It has good interior features, music system, power windows, effective air conditioner which does a good job of cooling down the cabin in hot weather. It has spacious cabin and ample leg and head room. It has cubby holes, glove box and ample boot space to carry your luggage.


Chevrolet has done a good job with the facelift of the new Tavera Neo 3. It has good interior features and simple dashboard. It has high quality beige interiors and seats which offer good support to the back and under thighs. It has ample leg and head room. It also brings features such as MP3 music system with AUX-in and good speakers. It powerful air conditioner and dual air bags for safety and features a large boot for carrying your luggage.

Engine – performance, power, torque, fuel economy, smoothness:


Mahindra Bolero brings good engine performance and brings a 2.5 liter m2DiCR diesel engine which produces 63 BHP at 3200 RPM and 180 NM of torque between 1440-1500 RPM. It has been mated to a 5 speed gearbox and provides very good city and highway performance and decent fuel efficiency. It has been rated by ARAI to deliver a fuel efficiency of 15.96 kmpl.


Chevrolet Tavera has good engine performance and brings good drivability with ample low end torque and feels very torquey through the rev range thanks to its 2.5 liter diesel engine which makes 104 BHP at 4000 RPM and 263.7 NM of torque between 1700-2500 RPM. It is a good engine to drive and has acceptable fuel efficiency. It has been rated to deliver 12.2 kmpl as per ARAI certification.

Suspension – Ride, comfort and handling:


Mahindra Bolero has good features and handling capabilities. It has rugged suspension which manages to provide a comfortable ride. The ride quality is firm at times but does not cause any discomfort. It has a good steering unit which gives decent feedback and is light weighted to turn. Bolero has a reasonable turning radius and easy to drive in the city and on the highways. It has powerful brakes despite lack of ABS.


Chevrolet Tavera has a well setup of the suspension which ensures good driving experience. It has a comfortable ride quality due to slightly softer tune of the suspension. It has some body roll but that is not bad enough to cause and discomfort to the passengers inside. It has a good steering unit which manages to stay light and gives decent feedback as well. It has ABS + EBD which is well calibrated and helps in slowing you down in good control.

Mahindra Bolero is available in only diesel variant and given all the features it is good value for money. It is priced from an ex-showroom Delhi price of 5.85 lakhs for Mahindra Bolero DI BSIII, Mahindra Bolero Plus Non AC BSIII is priced at 5.85 lakhs, Mahindra Bolero Plus AC BSIII is priced at 6.23 lakhs, Mahindra Bolero SLE is priced at 6.51 lakhs, Mahindra Bolero SLX is priced at 7.01 lakhs while the top variant Mahindra Bolero ZLX is priced at 17.7 lakhs.

Cherolet Tavera Neo 3 starts with an ex-showroom Delhi price tag of 7.54 lakhs for Chevrolet Tavera Neo 3 6 Seats, 8.50 lakhs for Chevrolet Tavera Neo 3 Max 7 Seats, Chevrolet Tavera Neo 3 LT 9 Seats BSIV is priced at 10.34 lakhs. Chevrolet Tavera Neo 3 LT 7 C Seats BSIV has been priced at 11.01 lakhs. The pricing is very competitive and positions the Tavera very well in the market. It has good features and performance at reasonable pricing.

Mahindra Bolero is a very good multi utility vehicle and a popular choice amongst families looking for a rugged vehicle for use. It has good features and Mahindra has good after sales service backup in comparison. Chevrolet brings good warranty and many features with the new Tavera Neo 3. It has improved its after sales and service backup and made its cars better value for money purchase with lower cost of ownership in the long term.
